Sony's PlayStation 5 will launch on November 12 with a standard edition priced at $500 and a digital edition with no disc drive priced at $400.

Sony confirmed the new console's price during a September showcase event that also included gameplay trailers for upcoming titles like "Spider-Man: Miles Morales," "Final Fantasy XVI," and "Resident Evil: Village." Other confirmed PlayStation 5 titles include "Gran Turismo 7" and "Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart."

The PlayStation 5 will be available first in North America, Japan, Mexico, Austrailia, New Zealand, and South Korea, followed by a worldwide launch on November 19.

The PlayStation 5 will compete with two new Xbox consoles for the affection of gamers throughout the 2020 holiday season. Microsoft confirmed that the $299 Xbox Series S and $499 Xbox Series X will be available on November 10, just two days before the PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 4 is the most popular video-game console of its generation, having sold more than 100 million units worldwide since November 2013. While new PlayStation and Xbox consoles are just a few months away, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles are selling out amid the coronavirus pandemic and shelter-in-place orders.

Though the official preorder date for the PlayStation 5 is still unknown, we've detailed everything we know so far about how to buy the console.

The PlayStation 5 will be released on November 12 in two different models — one that has a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray drive and a "digital edition" with no disc drive at all. The standard model is priced at $500, and the digital edition is priced at $400.

While the digital edition is $100 cheaper, you might need to use your PlayStation 4 discs to claim the PlayStation 5 versions of those games later on.

In August, Sony announced that a limited number of PS5 consoles will be sold via preorder, and extended an offer for existing PlayStation Network members to preorder a single console directly from Sony. Only some members will receive the offer via email, but you can sign up for a shot at an early preorder on Sony's official website.

You can also expect to find the PlayStation 5 at all major retailers when it launches in November. Several stores, including Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop, have already established landing pages to keep buyers informed about preorders. We'll update this post when preorders are available.
